The Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV transmission line project was approved for the electricity import policy and the connection plan to Monsoon wind power plant (Laos) by the Prime Minister in document No. 938/TTg-CN dated July 21, 2020, and Decision No. 500/QD-TTg dated May 15, 2023 on approving the National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 (referred to as Power Plan VIII ).
The Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV transmission line project (section on Vietnamese territory) is built in Nam Giang district, Quang Nam province with a length of about 44.71km of dual circuit line, connecting from the Monsoon wind power plant cluster (Laos) to Thanh My 500kV substation. The project was assigned by the Prime Minister to EVN as the investor. Power Project Management Board 2 was assigned by EVN to represent the investor to manage the project. The total project investment is more than VND 1,100 billion with project construction investment capital arranged from credit loans of the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) and counterpart capital from EVN.
Once the Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV transmission line project is completed and put into operation, it shall be able to transmit a maximum capacity of about 2500MW, contributing to improving the operating capacity of the national power system through importing electricity from Laos. However, according to the power purchase agreement, when put into operation, the line is going to receive electricity imported from Laos wind power sources with a capacity of 600MW, and the expected average annual electricity output is about 1.7 billion kWh.
