EVN and its units have researched and implemented many additional measures to minimize dust generation during production activities and prevent dust dispersion into the surrounding environment. Effective measures have been implemented in the past time as follows: coal conveyors shielding, coal transfer towers; coal storage; deploying solutions to operate coal supply and destroy coal piles flexibly, adapting to each weather condition; implementing solutions to reduce dust from silo area and transport slagged ash …
In order to minimize dust concentration in smoke discharged into the environment, Vinh Tan 2 and Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plants have invested and installed electrostatic precipitators (ESP) with a dust removal efficiency of over 99.6%. ESP system is installed separately for each separate unit.
In order to minimize the concentration of dust in the exhaust fumes, Vinh Tan 2 Thermal Power Plant has improved and completed the conversion of HFO to DO burning oil, and at the same time put the ESP system into operation right from the start of boiler start. For Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant, the plant uses supercritical boiler technology (SC) with imported bitumen-subitem coal fuel (low ash content) to limit dust generation and at the same time, the amount of dust remaining in the exhaust smoke is very low.
In addition to the ESP system, Vinh Tan 2 and Vinh Tan 4 thermal power plants have also been equipped with SCR systems to treat NOx and FGD systems to treat SO2. Accordingly, the exhaust fume stream after passing through the ESP electrostatic dust system will continue to pass through the FGD system to treat the SO2. Here, the dust grains in the exhaust fume continue to be controlled to reduce 2-3% of the remaining dust.
Currently, all emission parameters have been automatically monitored continuously and signaled to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Binh Thuan province to monitor and supervise 24/24h. The results of periodic air environment monitoring in the plant areas and the surrounding environment, since the units came into operation (in 2019) until now, have all met QCVN 05:2013/BTNMT.
The campus of Vinh Tan 2 Thermal Power Plant planted with many trees, creating a clean and beautiful landscape
EVN's units have also actively carried out cleaning and planting trees around the coal depot to build secondary dust retaining walls; at the same time, plant additional trees in the isolated area between the residential area and Vinh Tan Power Center to increase the shielding effect.
Regarding the management and consumption of slagged ash, every year, two EVN plants consume about 9.57 million tons of coal and generate about 1.86 million tons of slagged ash, of which the annual rate of slagged ash generation of Vinh Tan 2 Thermal Power Plant accounted for 80% and Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant accounted for 20%. The consumption rate of slagged ash has been increasing year by year but it has not yet met the set requirements.
