Discussing with Mr. Brendan Augustion, EVN’s General Director stated that currently, commercial power output in Vietnam has grown about 10% per year. In order to meet the power demand, Vietnam needed a new source of 5,000MW to be put into operation each year.
In this context, Vietnam’s orientation is to develop projects of LNG (liquefied natural gas) power plant and seek more fuel gas for the existing gas-fired power plants as well.
In the Southern region, where the on-site power supply is inadequate, gas demand becomes more urgent. In 2019, EVN assigned Power Generation Corporation 3 to seek and import LNG sources to serve the production and operation requirement of the Group’s power plants.
Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan emphasized that the current period was an appropriate time for EVN and Woodside to promote their cooperation in the field of LNG commerce.
