At August Revolution Square, Hanoi, almost 5,000 people counted down to start the “Lights off” ceremony to convey the message of Earth Hour 2016 “SMALL ACTION, BIG IMPACT”.

Earth Hour 2016 campaign was led by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and supported by such sponsors as Vietnam Electricity, Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam, etc. Vietnam Electricity has joined the campaign as a main sponsor for eight consecutive years.
Earth Hour is a worldwide movement for the planet organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), so far approximately 7,000 cities in 172 countries and territories worldwide have been engaged in the campaign.
Hanoi has joined Earth Hour campaign since 2009. During the past time, the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Hanoi People Committee have successfully led Earth Hour campaign and activated 63 cities and provinces’ engagement.

Mr. Nguyen Doan Toan, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People Committee said that Hanoi had communicated and encouraged agencies, organizations, schools, enterprises, residential areas to join Earth Hour campaign by such small actions as conserving energy, saving water, protecting environment, etc.
Earth Hour 2016 lights off event night attracted a great number of Hanoi communities and people, more than 800,000 organizations and individuals committed to switch off the light and unnecessary electrical devices during the lights off hour.
