“Energy sector of Senegal considering Power sector of Viet Nam a good example”

This is the speech made by Mr. Mouhamadou Makhtar Cisse - Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Senegal National Electricity Company at the working session with Viet Nam Electricity on 23 November 2018 in Ha Noi. Mr. Vo Quang Lam - Deputy General Director of the Group welcomed and worked with the delegation.

The delegation from Republic of Senegal also included Mr. Papa Mademba Biteye - Permanent Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Oil and Energy and representatives from the World Bank (WB).

Mr. Mouhamadou Makhtar Cisse expressed his pleasure to the working session at EVN and said that he was very impressed by achievements of Vietnamese Power sector, particularly in the field of rural electrification.

In Republic of Senegal, the National Electricity Company has served about 1.4 million customers, equivalent to about 60% of Senegal’s population accessing to electricity.

“The Energy sector of Senegal considers Viet Nam to be a good example to learn and I would like EVN to share valuable experiences with us in its supplying, ensuring power to all people during this working session,” said Mr. Mouhamadou Makhtar Cisse.

Introducing the current power system in Viet Nam, Deputy General Director of EVN - Mr. Vo Quang Lam said: Total capacity of the whole system has reached about 48,000MW, with a diversified power source structure: Hydropower, thermal power, renewable energy, etc.

Viet Nam Electricity has particularly supplied power to over 25 million customers nationwide with increasingly-improved electricity services. In the field of rural electrification, EVN has effectively utilized capital sources from the state budget, international loans to develop the power system and supply power to 100% of communes in the country.

Currently, the Group is also promoting modern technology applications, implementing restructure in order improve management capacity, production, business efficiency, quality of customer service and adapt oneself to the development of Viet Nam competitive generation market.

The two parties further exchanged experiences on investment in developing power systems; internal management; as well as electricity business in rural areas, etc.

Mr. Mouhamadou Makhtar Cisse highly appreciated the useful information provided by EVN and said that this was a very valuable practical experience for Senegal National Electricity Company.

Within the framework of the business trip to Viet Nam, the delegation also visited some units of EVN such as: Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant, Hoa Binh Power Company, etc.
