According to Mr. Duong Quang Thanh, Chairman of EVN’s Board of Directors, Vietnam Electricity, with the missions assigned by the Government of ensuring the national energy security, has ensured electricity supply in a safe, stable and reliable manner for economic – political – cultural – social development of the country with the growth rate of power sales during 2011 - 2017 on average at 11% per year. This achievement is attributable to the support and coordination of domestic and foreign corporations and enterprises in electricity area, especially the important cooperation of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group.
PetroVietnam currently operates 7 large power plants in the national power system, with the aggregate installed capacity of 4,260 MW, accounting for about 9% of the total system capacity. The total generation output of these plants in 2017 was about 21.2 billion kWh, equivalent to 10.7% of the generation output of the whole system (198.32 billion kWh).
With respect to gas supply for electricity generation, from 1995, PetroVietnam transported the first gas flow to shore serving power generation in the South East region. So far, PetroVietnam has supplied over 122 billion m3 gas, of which 94% has been supplied for electricity generation.
Leaders of all levels of the two groups attended the meeting
In realization of the goal of ensuring power supply in the period of 2018 - 2020 and the following years, especially power supply for the South, EVN requested PetroVietnam to secure the safe and stable operation of the current power plants. At the same time, PetroVietnam should prioritize and create all conditions to ensure gas supply for electricity generation to the highest possible extent.
Mr. Tran Sy Thanh, the Deputy Head of Central Economic Committee and Chairman of PetroVietnam, stated that the meeting was of great significance in developing the cooperative relations between the two groups, with the aim of promoting mutual works and creating an impetus for the development of electric power and gas areas in Vietnam. The leaders of the two groups agreed that periodic meetings and discussions should be hold to remove difficulties, obstacles and even put forward recommendations on policies, directions to the Government and Ministries, with the goal to secure sufficient fuel for electricity generation for the socio - economic development of the country.
