This is a special level energy project, of group B, invested by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), the project implementation management is undertaken by the Power Transmission Project Management Board.
The bay extension is implemented at the existing 500kV Thanh My substation in Ta B'Hing commune, Nam Giang district, Quang Nam province. The expanded area of the substation is 12.83 hectares, which is currently vacant land, outside the forestry planning.
According to the project scale, the existing diagram on the 500kV side will be renovated from a quadrilateral diagram to a 3/2 diagram, adding compartments for the 500kV transmission line to Monsoon (Laos) and the 500kV transmission lines to Pleiku (circuit 2) and a transitional 500kV transmission line on 2 circuits of the 500kV Quang Trach - Doc Soi transmission line in the later phase. Installing equipment for 2 Monsoon transmission line compartments and converting the existing quadrilateral diagram to a 3/2 diagram. Adding systems of protective relays, communications, SCADA, grounding, lightning protection, lighting suitable for the expansion, etc.
This project is of a particularly important indication under the Energy Cooperation Agreement between the Governments of Vietnam and Laos, with the goal of importing electricity from the Monsoon Wind Power Plant (Laos) to the Vietnamese power system in general and Quang Nam province in particular, from 2024 and the following years.
It is expected that the project will be put into operation in October 2024. Currently, site clearance for the project has been basically completed.
