In first large-scale heat wave in 2023 summer, EVN recommends economical electricity use

The Northern and Central regions are experiencing the first heat wave in 2023, but have recorded severe and extremely hot temperatures. Meanwhile, the heat in the South has not shown any signs of cooling down. With hot weather on a large scale, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) recommends that offices, production installations, and people pay attention to safe and economical electricity use.

Hot weather at its peak, over 40 degrees Celsius in many places

According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, today May 6, the weather in the Northwest region and from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen continues to be severely and extremely hot. The actual temperature recorded at 13:00 is common at 37-40 Celsius degrees, some places are over 41 degrees such as Lac Son (Hoa Binh) 41.7 degrees, Hoa Binh 41.3 degrees, Hoi Xuan (Thanh Hoa) 42.4 degrees, Quy Chau (Nghe An) 42 degrees, Tuong Duong (Nghe An) 42.5 degrees, Tay Hieu (Nghe An) 42.5 degrees, Huong Khe (Ha Tinh) 41.3 degrees, etc.

Saving electricity is the most important solution

According to Ho Chi Minh City Load Dispatch Center, on May 5, the city's electricity consumption continued to set a new "record" of over 94.43 million kWh. Up to the present time, the amount of electricity consumed in Ho Chi Minh City has set "records" three times in 2023. In which, the first time (April 21) was 93.53 million kWh; the second time (April 25) was 93.56 million kWh.

In Hanoi, electricity consumption also begins to increase markedly due to the influence of the weather. If in April, the highest daily electricity consumption was about 72 million kWh, the amount recorded on May 5 was 78.23 million kWh.

Using electricity economically and efficiently will limit sudden increases in electricity bills in the summer months

In order to mitigate the risk of local incidents on the power grid as well as at home, EVN keeps on recommending that people, offices and production installations pay attention to safe, economical use of electricity, especially during the afternoon and evening peak hours. At the same time, they should pay attention to rational use of air conditioners (set at 26-27 degrees or more, used in combination with fans) and not using many power-intensive electrical equipment at the same time.

In addition, customers should install customer care applications on their mobile phones to be able to monitor their families’ electricity usage, and proactively adjust their electricity usage habits to save electricity.
