Kick off the Demand Side Management program for 2018 – 2020 period

On September 11, 2018, in Hanoi, Mr. Dinh Quang Tri – Acting President and CEO of EVN chaired a Video Conference to kick off the Demand Side Management program for 2018 – 2020 period, with the participation of leaders of Power Corporations and the National Load Dispatch Center.

The Demand Side Management (DSM) program aims to lower the maximum capacity (peak power) and power consumption of the power system through indirect or direct activities of customers, being motivated by power distribution companies.

According to Mr. Dinh Quang Tri, the EVN's Demand Side Management program for 2018 – 2020 period needs to focus on two main areas: coordination with customers in load profile adjustment and promotion of rooftop solar PV system development.

Mr. Dinh Quang Tri directed the National Load Dispatch Center and Power Corporations to complete their load forecasts and analysis of the power system; to study the application of load profile adjustment technologies and techniques.

At the same time, it is necessary to coordinate with relevant agencies to finalize mechanisms necessary for promoting rooftop solar PV system development; performing communication activities to facilitate the public understanding and supports towards the program.

Mr. Dinh Quang Tri – Acting President and CEO chaired the Conference

According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Dung - Director of EVN’s Business Department, this program will help EVN balance the power supply and demand in the coming time, reducing investment costs for the power system, creating a consensus between the power sector and customers in the efficient use of electricity.

The Demand Side Management program is viewed to facilitate the development of energy service market, contributing to diminishing the energy elasticity factor in accordance with the Prime Minister's instructions.

EVN has implemented many communication programs on energy conservation and efficiency for customers nationwide

EVN sets a target to decrease more than 300MW peak load of the national power system by 2020. At the same time, mid - term and long - term DSM programs will be piloted between 2018 -2020; a comprehensive communication program will be developed and realized to facilitate customers’ better understanding of Demand Side Management.

EVN will coordinate with concerned authorities to develop and implement mechanisms and programs to encourage customers to invest in the installation of rooftop solar PV systems all over the country.

EVN has had experiences in implementing some relevant programs such as direct load control; studying loads of time-of-use meters; piloting load adjustment program (Demand Response) in Ho Chi Minh City in 2015; conducting communication activities on energy conservation and efficiency in the whole country, etc. These are favorable conditions for EVN to embark on this Demand Side Management program.
