Launching of Vietnam Energy Outlook Report - Pathway to Net-Zero

On June 19, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) in coordination with the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam and the Danish Energy Agency (DEA) organized the Launching Ceremony of Vietnam Energy Outlook Report - Pathway to Net-Zero.

Attending the announcement ceremony were representatives of the Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development (DEESD); the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority (EREA); representatives of the Danish Energy Agency (DEA); the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam; representatives of the Vietnam-Denmark Energy Partnership Program (DEPP3); and ministries, branches; institutes, associations, universities, etc.

On the side of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) were EVN Vice President Nguyen Tai Anh, Director of the National Load Dispatch Center Nguyen Duc Ninh; and representatives of EVN's professional departments.

The Vietnam Energy Outlook Report was compiled in close cooperation between EREA, DEA, and the Embassy of Denmark. The Vietnam Energy Outlook Report – Pathway to Net-Zero is the fourth in the series of Vietnam Energy Outlook Reports under the Vietnam-Denmark Energy Partnership Program.

This is a long-term partnership program between Vietnam and Denmark on the green energy transition. The report presented scenarios for the development of Vietnam's energy system towards 2050, focusing on analyzing realistic pathways for Vietnam to achieve its net-zero commitment by 2050.

Mr. Nicolai Prytz - Danish Ambassador to Vietnam affirming that Denmark is committed to continuing to support Vietnam in energy transition process

On the Danish Embassy's side, Mr. Nicolai Prytz - Danish Ambassador to Vietnam emphasized that the Energy Outlook Report - Pathway to Net-Zero is an important outcome of the Long-term Energy Partnership Cooperation Program between Denmark and Vietnam. This is also a key cooperation area in the Vietnam-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership.

During the ceremony, representatives of Vietnamese policy-making agencies, Danish Ambassador Nicolai Prytz, and Director General of the Danish Energy Agency Kristoffer Böttzauw attended a discussion on issues such as barriers to expanding investment in green energy; the importance of green economic growth and the role of state-owned enterprises in the green transition, etc.

Vietnam-Denmark Energy Partnership Program:

The Vietnam-Denmark Energy Partnership Programme (DEPP) is a cooperation program between the DEA and Vietnam’s MOIT. The first phase of the program was implemented from 2013 to 2017, focusing on low-carbon development in the industrial and building sectors; the second phase was implemented from 2017 to 2020, focusing on the areas of energy economically and efficiently in the industrial sector, integrating renewable energy into the grid, and establishing a long-term scenario model for the energy sector.

The third phase of DEPP3 will be implemented over 5 years from 2021 to 2025. The DEPP3 program consists of 03 components.

The objective of Component 3 is to develop incentive mechanisms for implementing energy economically and efficiently (EEE) in the industrial sector, enhance capacity to develop and amend the legal framework on EEE at the national level, and effectively implement EEE regulations at the provincial level.
