Low investment, much saved power

Power can be efficiently saved without investment capital or very low investment. This is one of benefits that the Energy Efficiency Network (EEN) brings to the participating enterprises. This model has promoted practical effects in the world and launched in Vietnam since mid-2017.

Sharing experiences and learning

Vietnam EEN is an initiative in the framework of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Project, co-ordinated for implementation by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the German Development Cooperation Organization (GIZ) under the authorization of the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMZ). This model has been popularly applied to in the world.

Mr. Markus Bissel – EEN’s Head of Energy efficiency department in Vietnam said: "The purpose of this Network is to connect companies, share and learn from each other. The whole process will be clearly planned and structured under the coordination of German experts. "

Each network consists of only 10 to 15 enterprises with high energy consumption, located in the same area, but not the direct competitor with the others. Enterprises will be supported in auditing energy, installing some smart equipment, measuring power consumption, be consulted solutions for efficiently power saving, etc.

Officially launched in July 2017, EEN Vietnam currently has 08 members including enterprises in the fields of textiles and garments, paper production, transportation, rubber and plastic processing, with the expected power saving amount of about VND 5.89 billion/year.

Difficulties remained

According to experts, although the energy saving (ES) model is popular in the world, it is not simple for EEN to be replicated in Vietnam. "The difficulty is how to approach to companies that understand the issue and have a positive attitude, as well as are willing to participate therein. This network was introduced in two industrial parks near Ho Chi Minh City, but it has not been really efficient until it is coordinated by a local consulting company. The key is to develop trust with enterprises”. Vietnam has an advantage as there are lots of industrial parks in the country.

In the coming time, EEN will focus on key enterprises using energy because they are under pressure to save power in production and business activities, etc. Each company has certain knowledge about efficiently energy using. Practical experience shows that if they join the network, companies can save as twice much energy as they do it by themselves.

Energy Efficiency Network:

- Established in 1987 in Switzerland.

- By 2009, 30 Energy Efficiency Networks were established, saving 12% of power energy used within 5 years.

- In the period of 2014 - 2020, 500 different Networks are expected to be established in Germany.
