Many power transmission projects evacuating power from renewable energy sources reach the finish line ahead of schedule

Although remarkably affected by COVID-19, with the spirit of urgency, by focusing all resources and working out solutions to accelerate the implementation schedule of power transmission projects for evacuating power from renewable energy sources in the South Central Coast, the National Power Transmission Corporation has given directions so that the projects can reach the finish line ahead of schedule.

With great determination and efforts, EVNNPT has completed Vinh Tan 500kV Substation (Binh Thuan province) ahead of the targeted schedule.

The project commenced on February 29, 2020. EVNNPT energized the AT1 500kV-900MVA transformer on April 17, 2020 or 73 days ahead of schedule. On May 28, 2020 the AT2 500kV-900MVA transformer was energized, 32 days ahead of schedule. The energizing and putting into operation of two these transformers ahead of the targeted schedule has enhanced the transmission capacity of the system, enabling the evacuation of power from renewable energy sources in the region and reducing power losses, which brings an estimated benefit of about VND 80 billion.

Ninh Phuoc 220kV substation and connection line (Ninh Thuan province) completed energizing on June 29, 2020, earlier than the targeted schedule.

On April 1, 2020, EVNNPT energized Phan Ri 220kV substation. The successful energizing and putting into operation of Phan Ri 220kV substation has contributed to ensuring the readiness to receive and transmit power from solar and wind energy sources in the districts of Tuy Phong, Bac Binh and Ham Thuan Bac of Binh Thuan province and the southern districts of Ninh Thuan province to 220kV grids, contributing to improving the reliability and safety of electricity supply for socio-economic development of southern provinces.

Most recently, EVNNPT has completed Ninh Phuoc 220kV substation and connection line. This is a very important project being constructed in Ninh Phuoc district, Ninh Thuan province with the aim of gathering the power from renewable energy sources in Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan areas to transmit to the national power transmission system, ensuring electricity supply to the southern provinces. The project was energized on June 29, 2020, helping to integrate more than 300MW of renewable energy in the region into the national power system. EVNNPT is currently striving to complete the second phase of the project in the third quarter of 2020.

Construction of Nha Trang - Thap Cham 220kV line is facing difficulties due to land acquisition and site clearance problems

However, some projects still are facing many difficulties in site clearance. Typically, the Thap Cham - Nha Trang 220kV transmission line project is implemented by the Central Power Project Management Board (CPMB) under EVNNPT. This is a very important project in absorbing renewable energy in this region.

In order to ensure the progress of energizing the project in 2020, EVNNPT has proposed that the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province should consider granting supports for houses, architectural objects, trees on foundation locations (as for permanent land acquisition) and tall trees in right of way as for households those self-reclaiming land or cultivating on forestry land.

If these difficulties are soon resolved, according to the CPMB, the project will be able to meet the target that the project is energized in 2020.
