National Assembly Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai: EVN has made vital contributions to country's socio-economic development

On the afternoon of July 26, the Supervisory Delegation of the National Assembly Standing Committee worked with Vietnam Electricity (EVN). Chairing this meeting, Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai - Head of the Supervision Delegation, acknowledged EVN's efforts in supplying power for the country's socio-economic development.

Ensuring power supply efforts

At the meeting, Mr. Dang Hoang An - Chairman of EVN's Member Council reported that the total installed capacity of the national power source so far is 79,364MW. In which, the power source owned by EVN is 11,974MW, accounting for only 15.1% of the total installed capacity of the whole system. Power generation corporations under EVN (EVNGENCO) accounted for 22.6% (17,884MW). The rest belongs to TKV, PVN, BOT investors, and other investors.

In the 2016-2020 period, EVN's total commercial power output reached 953.5 billion kWh, equaling 98.6% of the 5-year plan, with an average growth of 8.59%/year. In the years 2021-2022, due to continuing to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, commercial power increased by an average of 5.77% per year. In the first 6 months of 2023, commercial power output reached 118.72 billion kWh, up 1.6% over the same period in 2022.

Over the past time, EVN and its member units have made great efforts in the construction investment of power grid projects and played a key role in the investment, development, and capacity improvement of grid infrastructure. Up to now, Vietnam has formed the North-South 500kV super high-voltage grid axis, connecting 500kV loop circuits in the Northern and Southern key economic regions; 220kV and 110kV power grids have been developed to 63/63 provinces/cities across the country.

In particular, EVN and power corporations have invested in power supply projects for rural, mountainous, and island areas. Up to now, EVN has provided electricity for 11/12 island districts; the number of communes accessing electricity nationwide reached 100% and the number of households accessing electricity reached 99.7%, of which the number of rural households accessing electricity reached 99.53%. Thereby, contributing to creating motivation for hunger eradication and poverty reduction, maintaining political security and social order and safety, protecting the country's territorial and maritime sovereignty; facilitating the production structure transformation of people in rural, mountainous, and islands areas in the spirit of the Party's Resolution and the Prime Minister's Decisions No. 2081/QD-TTg dated November 8, 2013, No. 1740/QD-TTg dated December 13, 2018.

In addition, power corporations have invested in and upgraded rural power grids, contributing to increasing the percentage of rural communes meeting criterion No. 4 (electricity criterion) of the National target program on new-style rural area building to 87.9%.

EVN and its units have also promoted digital transformation, modernization, and reliability improvement of the power system. The Group has put into operation 63/63 remote control centers in 63 provinces/cities and converted 100% of 110kV substations and 80% of 220kV substations into unmanned operation.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Hai - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, Head of the Supervisory Delegation concluded that the delegation recognized the great efforts of EVN and related units in power production, transmission, and distribution; power system command and operation; power import and export; power projects’ investment and capital management; and the management, operation, repair, maintain and automation of equipment in the power system, etc.

"The efforts of EVN and related units have made vital contributions to the country's socio-economic development and people's daily life," National Assembly Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai emphasized.
