National power consumption increased, surpassing 1 billion kWh/day for first time, EVN continues to recommend economical use of electricity

In the last days of May 2024, intense hot and muggy weather recurred in many areas of all three regions, causing national power consumption to increase to a record high. According to data from the National Load Dispatch Center, although the peak capacity of the entire system as of 28 May 2024 has not surpassed the peak at the end of April (47,670 MW, also the historical peak to date) national power consumption on 28 May  2024 reached a new record peak of 1.0019 billion kWh. This is the first time in history that national power consumption in a day surpassed 1 billion kWh.

To join hands and contribute to ensuring power supply during the hot summer of 2024, which has been experiencing unfavorable weather trends, EVN hopes to continue to receive the sharing and active coordination of people and electricity customers through thorough and economical use of electricity, especially during peak lunch hours (from 11:00 to 15:00) and peak evening hours (from 19:00 to 23:00). In particular, people and electricity customers pay special attention to reasonable use of air conditioning, only turn on the air conditioner when absolutely necessary, set the temperature at 26-27 degrees or higher; at the same time, pay attention not to use many high-capacity electrical devices during peak hours. Thoroughly using electricity to save electricity also minimizes the risk of electrical incidents and limits increased electricity bills.

As previously reported, to ensure power supply in 2024 and the following years as directed by the Prime Minister, EVN and its units have been synchronously implementing solutions for optimizing power system and electricity market operation, increasing electricity import, speeding up construction investment progress, and mobilizing customers to use electricity economically and effectively.

The National Load Dispatch Center establishes methods and operates the electricity system and electricity market optimally; develops power supply scenarios, weekly updates factors on power production, load demand, and hydrological developments to proactively prepare and adjust power system operation plans. Power Corporations/Power Companies in close coordination with the People's Committees of provinces/cities strictly and effectively implement minimum electricity saving programs and solutions to achieve the targets following Directive 20/CT-TTg 8 June 2023 by the Prime Minister.

EVN has also been drastically implementing tasks and solutions to invest in construction projects by the Prime Minister's direction to ensure the progress of key power source and grid projects. Especially in the current period, EVN and its units are focusing their best efforts on all solutions to strive to complete the construction of the Quang Trach - Pho Noi 500kV circuit-3 transmission line by the progress requested by the Prime Minister./.
