The Ialy Hydropower Plant Expansion Project, invested by Vietnam Electricity (EVN), is a national key project under construction since mid-2021. The Ialy Hydropower Plant Expansion work has a designed capacity of 360MW, including 2 units, and is assigned by EVN to the Power Project Management Board 2 (EVNPMB2) as the investor representative. Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 1 is the consulting unit for the project design in each phase.

With the attention and close direction of EVN, the great efforts of EVNPMB2, and the close coordination of EVN's professional departments, Ialy Hydropower Company, consulting units, construction contractors, and equipment suppliers, the project has been implemented with many creative construction solutions. In particular, the most prominent is the plan to combine the rotors of Unit 1 and Unit 2 simultaneously, arrange the site to deploy 2 units in parallel, and organize 3 shifts a day, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. This is considered the "key" to help speed up the progress of generating power for Unit 2 right after generating power for Unit 1, 18 days ahead of schedule and shortening the progress by about 3 months compared to normal.

When put into operation, the work will increase the power generation capacity for the national power system, especially during peak hours; contribute to enhancing the economic operation of the entire system; make the most of the water source's capacity, increase the average annual power generation output by about 233 million kWh/year. The project also contributes to reducing CO2 emissions; reducing the intensity and working time of existing units, thereby extending the life of the equipment, and saving maintenance and repair costs.
