On behalf of the MOIT, Mrs. Lam Giang - Director General of Energy Saving and Sustainable Development Department (MOIT) called upon all organizations, individuals, families and enterprises to contribute their efforts through specific and practical actions; showing their response by turning off unnecessary lights and electric equipment during the Earth Hour, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on March 30th, 2019.

As the unit who has accompanied with the Earth Hour campaign for 11 consecutive years, Mr. Vo Quang Lam - Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) shared: “Saving energy and protecting the environment is a highly meaningful message of the Earth Hour in 2019. This is not only a right but also a responsibility for each of us”.

EVN’s leaders hope that "The launch event of Earth Hour 2019 will stimulate inspiration and an enthusiastic spirit to impartially dedicate in every individual. So that after this day, everybody will convey this inspiration and spirit to people around us and spread them throughout our community. This is also the idea that the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) - the founder of the Campaign seeks for: Spreading it from a small group to a large community, from one hour to the whole year’s time, from a small action of turning off our lights to big thoughts in efficiently and economically using energy”.

Together with the Earth Hour, EVN has always been a pioneer in saving power programs with many outstanding and successful projects such as: The program of donating 5 million compact light bulbs which was implemented in 2007-2010, it helped transform the domestic lighting market from using incandescent light bulbs into compact ones; the program of supporting the development of solar-energy water heater market; the program of supporting solutions to save power in agriculture such as saving power in cultivating chrysanthemums, dragon fruits, farming shrimps, etc.

At the event, the Organizing Committee also announced the ambassadors of Earth Hour 2019, including: Miss Universe Vietnam of 2017 H'Hen Nie, Mr. Le Vinh Son - Chairman of Son Ha Group, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien - Chairman of FPT Software, Mr. Dang Hoang Giang – Social activist and Mr. Ousmane Dione - Director of the World Bank in Vietnam.
