Operation in January 2018 and target, tasks in February 2018

In January 2018, Vietnam Electricity ensured stable and safe power supply for socio-economic development to meet the people's daily needs, securing power supply for cultural, political and social events in the whole country. The Group cooperated with the General Department of Irrigation (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD)) to discharge water through power generation from Hoa Binh, Thac Ba and Tuyen Quang hydropower reservoirs for the Winter-Spring crop of 2017-2018 in the Northern midland and delta areas.

Total electric power production and import in January 2018 reached 17.1 billion kWh (averagely 553.8 million kWh/day), the highest output reached 583.3 million kWh/day (16 January 2018) and the highest capacity of the whole system was 29,812 MW (17 January 2018). EVN’s estimated commercial power output in January 2018 is 14.6 billion kWh, increasing by 12.06% over the same period of 2017, of which domestic commercial power output increases by 12.18%.

In January 2018, the most popular transmission trend is mainly from the North to the Central and the South. The highest transmission capacity on the North-Central 500kV lines is 1,900MW and the Central-South is 3,500MW, transmission capacity to the South is about 50.5 million kWh/day equivalent to 19.3% of the total power demand in the South.

The water flow into most of the reservoirs nationwide is better than the average value. EVN optimally exploited both of hydropower - thermal power generation, securing water supply demand in downstream basin by localities, especially water supply for rice cultivation in the Winter-Spring crop of 2017 - 2018.

Situation of water discharge through power generation of hydropower reservoirs for the Winter-Spring crop of 2017-2018 in Southern midland and delta areas: Implementing the direction of the Government and MARD, from 0:00 on 13 January 2018, hydropower reservoirs of Hoa Binh, Thac Ba, Tuyen Quang increased the water discharge volume through power generation to serve the first phase of the Winter-Spring crop.

Total water volume discharged from reservoirs was 4.03 billion m3

For construction investment, in January 2018, the first generation unit was commercially operated and trial operation of the second unit of Vinh Tan Thermal Power Plant 4 was completed. Generation unit 1 of Thai Binh Thermal Power Plant was also completed its reliable operation and inspection and evaluation was accomplished to organize the inspection and acceptance before being handed over for commercial operations and issued PAC. For the grid, in January 2018, EVN and its affiliated units started the construction of 02 works, completed the power supply, put into operation 10 power grid works of 220 kV and 110 kV.

In January 2018, the Group and Power Generation Corporation 3 (EVNGENCO 3) have completed procedures to prepare for EVNGENCO 3 initial public offering (IPO) on 9 February 2018, in which international seminars were organized to introduce investment opportunities in EVNGENCO 3’s share (Roadshow) in Singapore, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Some working tasks of EVN in February 2018

In February, average daily power consumption of the whole system is estimated at 477 million kWh/day with the maximum power load estimated at 28,110MW. The electricity system will fully meet the capacity for load demand with backup option, while meeting the requirements for the national electricity system to be operated safely, continuously and stably during the Lunar New Year.

The operation situation of the electricity system in February 2018 is expected to further optimally exploit hydropower and thermal power source, securing water supply for agricultural production in the Winter-Spring crop of 2017-2018 in localities of Northern midland and delta areas. Transmission network is safely and reliably operated, especially the North-South 500kV power system in high transmission conditions for the South.

For construction investment: In February 2017, reliable operation of generation unit 1 and issuance of PAC to generation unit 2 of Vinh Tan 4 thermal power plant is implemented; the acceptance is completed to put generation unit 1 of Thai Binh Thermal Power Plant into commercial operation. The completion of the construction of key works is ensured in Quarter I/2018, namely the 500kV transmission line from Vinh Tan to Song May; Lai Chau 500kV substation, upgrading capacity of Son La 500kV substation, 220kV substations in Phu Tho, Luu Xa, Phong Dien and Dak Nong; 220kV Dong Hoi - Dong Ha - Hue lines, installing 2 220kV substations in Vung Tau, Uyen Hung, Duc Hoa, etc.

On 9 February 2018, the IPO of EVNGENCO 3 shall be implemented at Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange. EVN will continue to implement the privatization of EVNGENCO 1 and EVNGENCO 2; submit to Ministry of Industry and Trade for approving the starting price and option for divestment of EVN at Dong Anh Electric Equipment Joint Stock Corporation; implement the procedures for selling the remaining shares of EVN at EVN Finance Joint Stock Company (EVNFinance).
