Reliable operation of coal-fired thermal power plants, ensuring power supply in 2024 dry season

In recent times, the operational reliability of Vietnam Electricity's coal-fired thermal power plants (TPP) has been improved, with many significant improvements in the implementation of reliability, contributing significantly to ensuring power supply in the dry season of 2024.

Promoting the important role of electricity source

By the end of 2023, coal-fired thermal power will account for the largest proportion of power source capacity in Vietnam, reaching 32.6% of total installed capacity. In terms of output, coal-fired thermal power will also account for the largest proportion, with 46.1% of power produced.

In particular, the Group and Vietnam Electricity Trade Union have launched a movement to compete to reduce incidents and ensure the readiness of coal-fired thermal power plants for power generation in the dry season of 2023 - 2024. As a result, the technical indicators of the thermal power plants have been all improved: The response factor and the unit availability factor have increased; the power output has increased compared to that in the same period and to the plan; incidents and incident handling time have decreased more. Specifically: Electricity production reached 41.1 billion kWh, 10.6% higher than that of the same period (the electricity production in the same period in 2023 was 37.16 billion kWh). The number of incidents is 26% lower than the same period. At the same time, the thermal power plants have ensured sufficient fuel for power generation.

Being ready for reliable power generation in 2025

Regarding the tasks in the period of 2024 - 2025, the units continue to carry out technical management, operation, repair, maintenance, and renovation of coal-fired power plants, and carry out the tasks assigned by the Group with the main goal: Not let fuel shortages occur for power generation in any situation; absolutely not let subjective incidents or repeated incidents occur; minimize the occurrence of capacity reduction of generators due to subjective causes; to ensure labor safety and comply with regulations on environmental safety.

The Group's leaders directed units to improve the quality of repair and maintenance work, and promote the implementation of repair and maintenance according to RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance). At the same time, manage the quantity and quality of coal fuel for power generation. In particular, it is necessary to promote the application of new technology in thermal power plants, increase the application of information technology, and automation to support the process of monitoring operations, reduce risks of incidents, and improve the availability and reliability of thermal power plants.
