Renewable energy plant owners in the South Central region and the Central Highlands have dialogue with PTC3

On February 17, in Ninh Thuan, Power Transmission Company No.3, under the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), held a workshop on "Coordination in dispatching, managing and operating transmission grids". The workshop was attended by representatives of the National Load Dispatch Center (A0); the Central and Southern load dispatch centers and 31 project owners who are managing and operating solar and wind power plants in the South Central region and the Central Highlands.

According to PTC3’s Director Nguyen Cong Thang, with a total of 57 solar and wind power plants connected to the PTC3’s power grid over the years, the company has made efforts to coordinate with renewable energy plant investors to promptly evacuate energy from their power plants, safely operate power grids which are connected to the transmission system.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Thang – PTC3’s Director speaking at the workshop

PTC3 has promoted the application of science and technology to the management and operation of the transmission system. In 2022, the company successfully conducted and defended two scientific and technological assignments at the EVNNPT level: "Monitoring and operating primary equipment in substations"; "Studying and building a substation management system using smart devices".

Sharing the same opinion, a representative of BIM Renewable Energy Group Joint Stock Company wished to have many opportunities to exchange with and learn from each other, as well as become partners in the same field.

PTC3 did the maintenance and repair work for Vinh Tan 500kV substation through the Lunar New Year festival. The substation plays an important role in evacuating power from renewable energy sources in Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces.

The power transmission system managed by PTC3 covers 9 provinces in the South Central and Central Highlands, with 57 plants connected to the control center of PTC3. The electricity demand of these nine provinces at 12-13 pm daily is only about 1,200-1,300 MW, while the wind power capacity is nearly 2,000 MW, solar power is more than 5,000 MW, besides there are more than 2,600 MW of solar PV rooftop, small hydropower stations, etc.

In addition, many large hydropower plants and Vinh Tan Power Center are in the region. Therefore, the transmission company faced a lot of difficulties in system operation since the lines are always full-loaded. The power grid in exploiting renewable energy has to be divided into branches and be exposed to certain risks. However, thanks to good coordination between the relevant parties in the past time, following the discipline in operation, there have not been any errors. “This is a bright spot, showing the discipline and operational level of PTC3’s workers,” said Mr. Vu Xuan Khu.

On the side of the National Power Transmission Corporation, EVNNPT’s Deputy General Director Luu Viet Tien said that in the past time, EVNNPT has enhanced investment in substations for energy evacuation, however there are still bottlenecks. In the coming time, the corporation will keep on implementing projects to ensure the highest energy evacuation. The EVNNPT’s Deputy General Director requested PTC3 and related units to make more efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of grid management and operation; ensuring "continuous, safe and stable power transmission to serve for economic, political, social activities, security, national defense and Vietnam's electricity market".
