EVNHCMC ranks Top 50 of World Smart Grid Index

According to the results of the assessment of smart grids of power companies in the world in 2022 by Singapore Energy Group (SP Group), Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) reached 71.4 points, ranked in the Top 50 World Smart Grid Index.

EVNHCMC's score increased by 3.6 points compared to the 2021 result and was equal to that of Western Power - Australia, Duke Energy - USA, Toronto Hydro - Canada and TNB - Malaysia.

With this result, EVNHCMC ranked 47/94 power companies in the world, increasing by 6 levels compared to 2021’s. In ASEAN, EVNHCMC continued to rank 2nd, behind Singapore Power Company. (75 points, ranked 42/94).

According to the Smart Grid Scorecard published by SP Group, EVNHCMC (marked with an asterisk) ranked 47th, tied with 4 other power companies in the world.

In 2022, Enedis Power Company (France) continues to be ranked 1st. Taiwan Electric Company (TaiPower) continues to be ranked 1st In Asia, and rank 2nd in the world, Tepco Electric Company (Japan) continues to be ranked 28th in the world. Shanghai Electric Power Company (China) ranked 31st, Kepco Power Company (Korea) ranked 45th.

The Smart Grid Index (SGI) has been developed and evaluated by Singapore Energy Group since 2018.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh - General Director of EVNHCMC speaking at the Information Announcement Ceremony of EVNHCMC ranked the Top 50 of the World Smart Grid Index

Up to now, EVNHCMC's power grid has automated 100% of medium voltage lines, making the operation of the power system more efficient and ready for rapid transmission within 2-3 minutes when there is a power failure; replaced and installed nearly 100% metres of telemetry, helping the Electricity industry and customers to monitor daily power usage; 100% of 110kV substations operate in an unmanned manner, monitored and controlled remotely.

The Corporation has built a modern data center; basically digitizing completes all two important stages: technical management and business-customer service; put into use a series of IT applications such as automation, power-failure management, power loss management, switchboard, customer care application, etc., thereby building a large-scale and complete database of the Ho Chi Minh City Electricity industry.

For the green energy sector, EVNHCMC connected and purchased electricity from 14,215 customers' rooftop solar power systems with a total capacity of 358,677MWp; ready to connect and receive power from 3 projects of waste-incinerated power plants (40MW/plant) to be built in Ho Chi Minh City. Besides, Ho Chi Minh City has 12,000 households equipped with solar water heaters (equivalent to 31MW and saving 16 million kWh/year).

“The outstanding mark in EVNHCMC's smart grid construction is that the entire process of system design and installation, and construction of management software is developed and effectively operated by EVNHCMC engineers. Thereby, the quality of power supplied to customers is getting better and better. Specifically, the power-supply-reliability index is continuously improved. In 2010, the average number of power outages per customer was 28.85 times/year, in 2022, it will decrease to 0.47 times/year. The average power-outage time per customer in 2010 was nearly 4,000 minutes, but by 2022, the figure will be reduced to 35 minutes", said Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh - General Director of EVNHCMC.

The 7 smart grid components according to the Smart Grid Index (SGI) include:

1. Monitoring and control

2. Data Analysis

3. Power supply reliability

4. Distributed source integration

5. Green energy

6. Security and privacy

7. Customer empowerment and Customer satisfaction
