Power consumption on 31 May 2021 in the North and Hanoi also made a record of high capacity of power
Prolonged hot weather leads to the potential risk of local power grid failure as many types of outdoor electrical equipment have had to endure a long-term high temperature environment; Some lines and substations operate in overloaded situation sometime.
The intense heat has also forced some thermal power plants in the North to reduce capacity due to various reasons, including the high temperature of the cooling water.
In addition, severe hot weather and very low humidity have also increased the risk of forest fires, affecting the safe operation of power transmission lines. Power units in the North have stepped up their 24/24h response and urgently handled electrical problems as quickly as possible.
For households, prolonged hot weather also has significantly affected the operation status and performance of electrical equipment, leading to the risk of overloading, breakdowns, disconnection, even the higher risk of fire and explosion.
With the hot weather continuing in the summer, EVN continues to recommend that agencies, offices, production sites and people need to use power safely, economically and efficiently. Specifically, it is recommended to use air conditioners in appropriate way (set at 26-27 degrees or higher, used in combination with fans), should not be used simultaneously with large-capacity electrical appliances (such as air conditioners, stoves, etc.) to minimize the risk of local overload of the grid, while ensuring the efficiency of power use for customers, and at the same time limiting the sudden increase in electricity bills.
