By the end of November 2018, there have been 126 renewable energy projects nationwide developed by additional planning with a total capacity of 12,979MWp. Of which, 109 projects have been agreed in connection, 72 projects have been signed with contracts for electricity purchase with a total capacity of 4,740MWp.
According to Mr. Ngo Son Hai - Deputy General Director of EVN, when these projects put into operation, they would add a valuable amount of power in the current context, but the power system in Viet Nam would also face local overload because the current power grid had not been synchronously developed. At the same time, quality of power would be at risk of decline (such as power supply stability, reliability, harmonics deformation, etc.)
Facing the challenges of operating a power system with large proportion of renewable energy sources in the future, EVN and its member units have been actively, promptly studied on technical solutions, referred to the experiences of developed countries, domestic and international experts in order to improve the qualification of human resources and system capacity to prepare for the reception of renewable grid-connected energy sources.
