Strengthening Vietnam-Japan energy cooperation

This is one of the main contents of the Vietnam-Japan Joint Statement, on the state visit to Japan paid by Mr. Tran Dai Quang - President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, from May 29 to June 2, 2018.

On May 31, 2018, President Tran Dai Quang and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe have held a high-level talk.

The statement will further promote the bilateral relationship between both countries. Both leaders have expressed their satisfaction at the strong, comprehensive and substantive development in all aspects of the profound strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia between Vietnam and Japan.

In particular, President Tran Dai Quang and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation on Energy dated November 2017 between the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Trade of Japan, affirming the enhanced cooperation in the field of energy in accordance with such Memorandum of Cooperation.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of early commercial operation of three coal-fired power plant projects (BOT form) that are highly efficient and compliant with environmental conditions, affirming that the cooperation shall be continued to promote the public-private partnership projects funded by Japanese enterprises in the energy sector, including incentive policies provided by the Vietnamese government to private investors.
