The 35th HAPUA Working Committee Meeting took place in Quang Ninh province.
Representative of the host, Mr. Nguyen Tai Anh – Vice President of EVN gave a speech, which emphasized that ASEAN is one of the fastest growing economic regions in the world and the electricity demand is forecasted even higher in the coming years (nearly 5%/year according to the forecast of the International Energy Agency). Therefore, ASEAN countries will share a difficult challenge of how to meet the energy growing demand in a way that preserves and protects the environment.
Many ASEAN countries have revised their power development plans, especially after the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26), to include ambitious commitments to power sector decarbonization. To achieve low carbon energy transition and net zero goals, ASEAN countries will need to coordinate and cooperate with each other better.
Mr. Nguyen Tai Anh – Vice President of Vietnam Electricity delivered a welcome speech at the meeting
The leader of EVN also cited that, the draft Power Development Plan VIII of Vietnam aims to expand natural gas power plants and renewable energy sources to gradually replace coal power; studying putting into use new green energy sources such as green ammonia, green hydrogen when these technologies become proven. Vietnam has proven itself to be an attractive investment destination for renewable energy thanks to its favorable conditions and policies.
Vietnam Electricity believes that, with the spirit of ASEAN solidarity, the member countries in general and the power sector of each country will be able to accelerate their energy transition.
