The Prime Minister has issued a Directive to enhance electricity saving in the period of 2020 - 2025

The Prime Minister has issued Directive No. 20/CT-TTg (May 7, 2020) on enhancing electricity saving in the period of 2020 - 2025; which requires the country to strive to save at least 2% of the total electricity consumption annually.

To achieve this goal, the Prime Minister has requested ministries, ministerial-level agencies, governmental bodies, People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities, businesses, social organizations and associations to implement the following 5 solutions:

- Implementing electricity saving at offices.

- Implementing electricity saving in public lighting, lighting for advertising purposes, outdoor decoration.

- Implementing electricity saving at houses.

- Implementing electricity saving at commercial and service establishments.

- Implementing electricity saving at manufacturing facilities.

The Prime Minister has assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to instruct Vietnam Electricity to optimally operate power plants, transmission and distribution grids in order to efficiently use primary energy sources and reduce power losses throughout the system; coordinate with media agencies to continuously and widely disseminate information for people for their knowledge and realization of electricity saving.

Rewarding units and individuals having achievements in electricity saving

People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities are responsible for formulating and putting targets of economical and efficient use of energy into their annual and periodical socio-economic development plans; rewarding and requesting competent authorities to reward agencies, units, organizations and individuals that have achievements in electricity saving.

Vietnam Electricity is responsible for optimally operating power plants, transmission and distribution grids to efficiently use primary energy sources and reduce power losses throughout the system; reasonably dispatching capacity and power of hydropower plants, those purchased from independent power plants and backup power sources of customers.

Vietnam Electricity shall cooperate closely with the National Center for Meteorology and Hydrology in updating weather and water forecasts, proactively implementing efficient operation plans, economically using water resources to generate electricity.
