Up to now, Vietnam's power industry has gained a strong development, with the power generation capacity ranking 2nd in Southeast Asia (after Indonesia) and 23rd in the world; grid infrastructure ranks first in ASEAN countries.
Comrade Vu Hong Thanh shared, Vietnam is the only country with 100% of communes accessing the national electricity grid. By 2019, there were 11/12 frontier islands nationwide supplied with power.

Comrade Phan Xuan Dung - Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Committee for Science, Technology and Environment of the National Assembly praised that as a State enterprise, EVN supplied power to 99.52% of households. This rate is much higher than some countries with per capita income higher than Vietnam or equivalent to Indonesia, Philippines, etc.
In particular, up to now, our country's access-to-electricity index ranks 27/190 countries and economies in the world, contributing to improving Vietnam's business environment. EVN is one of the state-owned enterprises leading in the application of science, technology and automation, etc.

EVN focusing on applying science and technology
Chairman of EVN's Member Board Duong Quang Thanh said that the technologies of Vietnam's power sector had approached advanced technologies in the world. Currently, all power plants are controlled automatically; over 50% of 110kV substations are unmanned and remotely controlled; 80% of 220kV substations are remotely controlled, contributing to improving production and business efficiency, increasing labor productivity.

At the same time, ensuring the environment at coal-fired power plants is also taken care of and focused on by EVN. Thermal power plants are equipped with emission gas treatment and circulating water systems to meet the requirements, the environmental parameters are within the allowable level. Implementing Power Plan VII (period 2011-2015) and adjusted Power Plan VII (period 2016-2019), in the whole country nearly 34,200MW of power generation capacity had been put into operation, in which EVN had put into operation 15,725MW, accounting for 46%, completing and surpassing the assigned volume. EVN had completed 1,830 power grid projects from 110 kV to 500kV. In the whole period of 2011-2019, the value of investment capital of the whole EVN reached VND916,706 billion.
EVN and its affiliates developed electricity services and diversified service delivery forms. EVN provided electricity services online nationwide and through the National Public Service Portal, creating convenience for customers and transparency in transactions.
Since 2018, EVN has researched and applied the results of Industrial Revolution 4.0 in production, operation, sales and customer services. Currently, a number of tasks have been deployed such as automatic answering system on customer care website; Applying Business Intelligence technology, analyzing big data to deploy the Portal system to administer business and customer services.
In order to promptly remove difficulties and solve problems in the process of investment and construction of power projects and effectively implement the arrangement, restructuring and equitization in the coming period, EVN respectfully proposed that The National Assembly should amend the Law on Electricity to define state management of electricity, especially the management and operation of transmission grids, responsibility for ensuring energy security when implementing investment socialization.
At the same time, it was proposed to study and promulgate the law on electricity sector reform as a basis for forming a competitive electricity retail market; allowing the application of the State lending mechanism with preferential investment credit interest rates from the State's investment credit sources, or being granted government guarantees for investment in the development of power industry projects, etc.
