Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Duong Quang Thanh - Chairman of EVN’s Member Council said: Being deeply aware of the preparation for a new revolution, right after the direction of Government, ministries and agencies, EVN has started to implement the approach to technologies of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4). Up to now, the group has completed and approved the scheme for study, development and application of technologies from IR 4 into production and business activities of Viet Nam Electricity. EVN has also established a Steering Committee to direct the implementation of the scheme at EVN and its units. The scheme has been reported to agencies and ministries and received high appreciation on the content and spirit of readiness for IR 4 of the group.

Previously, from 2017, after the issuance of Directive No. 16/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister dated 4 May 2017 on strengthening capacity to approach IR 4.0, EVN established a Steering Committee and a Working Group to help the committee in developing the scheme of “Study, development and application of technologies from IR 4.0 into production and business activities of Viet Nam Electricity”, proposed to the Ministry of Industry and Trade with 6 priority products to be developed in IR 4.0. The scheme’s content set the target of developing the group into a leading unit in the region with sustainable, effective development, application of digital, information technologies and technologies of IR 4.0 for all activities: production, transmission, distribution, business - customer services, operation of power system and electricity market.
The workshop of “EVN with Industrial Revolution 4.0” is one of crucial activities aimed at disseminating and deploying the approach to IR 4.0 in EVN and its member units; exchanging, sharing, updating technology and technology application status of IR 4.0 in Viet Nam and other countries in the world. At the workshop, there were 12 presentations delivered, focusing on main issues of:
- Digital conversion in IR 4.0;
- Overview of ICT application in IR 4.0 at EVN; deployment of cloud computing technology EVNCloud;
- Technology application of IR 4.0 in the field of power transmission;
- Study, develop, apply technology of IR 4.0 into production and business activities, improvement of management and operation capacity of power system, service quality, customer care.
- Deployment of IR 4.0 at the National Load Dispatch Center and deployment of AGC (Automatic Generation control) to serve the operation of power system and electricity market, etc.
By the workshop, EVN and units would like to acquire valuable experience from leading experts and units deploying application of IR 4.0., in order to come up with solutions, successfully implement 5 general orientations including: (1) Strongly, thoroughly and effectively study, apply digital, information technologies and technologies of IR 4.0, including but not limited to IoT technology, AI, Big data, Cloud computing, Blockchain technologies, etc., into all activities from corporate administration to production and business of EVN and its units; (2) Developing internal Cloud, Transferring the existing software system to operation on internal Cloud platform, transferring server and storage infrastructure to virtualization technology for saving hardware resources and forming the platform for internal Cloud development. (3) Implementing online and smooth connection of data centers for maximal exploitation and effective use of data information storage of EVN and units. (4) Developing standards for shared databases; developing connection data infrastructure system. (5) Selecting appropriate technology to the existing infrastructure of units for performance. The efficiency is step by step assessed in order to replicate in each block, ensuring the capacity to communicate and connect with one another as well as applications in other operational areas.
