As of April 25, the Power Transmission Project Management Board (NPTPMB) has completed the installation of shunt capacitors at 20 out of 21 220–500kV substations under the project "Supplementary installation of shunt capacitors on Northern power grid in 2025."

Based on the proposal of the National Power System and Market Operation Company Limited (NSMO) to ensure reliable system operation in 2025 and beyond, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) assigned the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) as the project investor. In July 2024, EVNNPT approved the master implementation plan and delegated project management to the Power Transmission Project Management Board (NPTPMB).

According to the schedule, the project was to be completed before April 30, 2025. However, NPTPMB finished ahead of time and energized all items on April 25, 2025, surpassing the required timeline.

The final capacitor bank - at the Duong Kinh 220kV Substation - has been fully installed and is awaiting synchronization with the distribution grid, ready for energization before April 30, 2025. The project’s completion is expected to enhance the Northern power grid capacity by over 1,000MW ahead of this year’s summer peak. At the same time, it will maximize performance and enhance transmission capacity to support the Northern power system following the energization of the  Quang Trach – Pho Noi 500kV transmission line and enable high-capacity transmission on the 500kV line, improving overall transmission efficiency from Central to Northern Vietnam.
