Following information from the Power Project Management Board 2 (under Vietnam Electricity), at 22:43 on 23 January 2025, the Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV transmission line project (section in Vietnam) was successfully energized. This is a key transmission grid project, serving the import of electricity from the Monsoon wind power plant (in Laos) to Vietnam, adding 600MW of electricity to the national power system from 2024 to 2025.

The Monsoon-Thanh My 500kV transmission line project (section in Vietnam) is invested by Vietnam Electricity (EVN). The Power Project Management Board 2 (EVNPMB2) is assigned to represent the Investor. The part of the work located in Vietnam is built in Nam Giang district, Quang Nam province with a length of about 44.71 km, the total investment of the project is more than VND 1,100 billion. This is a double-circuit transmission line work, connecting the Monsoon Wind Power Plant cluster (in Laos) to the Thanh My 500kV substation in Quang Nam province.
The project started on 30 September 2023 and was completed by the approved design. 90/90 concrete foundation positions, 90/90 steel poles, and 28/28 anchorage spans were completed.

In the past, the project construction process encountered many difficulties due to rugged terrain, severe weather, etc. However, with the efforts of Power Project Management Board 2 and many units on the construction site, the project part in Vietnam was completed 40 days ahead of the power generation milestone of the Monsoon wind power project (in Laos, expected to be completed in early March 2025).
The Monsoon - Thanh My 500kV transmission line can transmit a maximum capacity of up to about 2,500MW, contributing to improving the operational capacity of the national power system by importing electricity from Laos. Shortly, after the Monsoon wind power plant project (Laos side) is completed, this transmission line project will receive imported electricity from Laos with a capacity of 600MW, and the expected average annual electricity output is about 1.7 billion kWh.
