EVNGENCO2 signs EPC Contract "Project to convert fuel of O Mon I Thermal Power Plant to use Block B gas"

On September 5, in Can Tho, Power Generation Corporation 2 (EVNGENCO2) and contractor LIGEPS CONSORTIUM - Joint venture of Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation (LILAMA) and Power Generation Corporation 3 (EVNGENCO3) held the Signing Ceremony of Contract Package No. 5 (EPC-1) under the Project of fuel conversion of O Mon I Thermal Power Plant (OMTPP) using Block B gas (Project).

The investor’s participants included EVNGENCO2, there were Mr. Tran Phu Thai - Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Board of Directors; Mr. Nguyen Huu Thinh - Deputy Party Committee Secretary, Member of the Board of Directors cum General Director, along with the Board of Directors; representatives of the Trade Union, the Party Committee's Advisory Boards, and the Corporation's functional Boards.

In addition, the ceremony was also attended by representatives of EVNGENCO3, Can Tho Thermal Power Company, contractors, consultants, supervisors, and banks.

Signing of EPC Contract for Fuel Conversion Project of OMTPP using Block B gas

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Phu Thai - Party Secretary, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVNGENCO2 said: "The signing of the contract and implementation of the project is an important milestone in the development process of EVNGENCO2 in general and Can Tho Thermal Power Plant in particular, demonstrating the political determination of the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the Corporation to implement the policies and orientations in the investment and construction of power sources with new and sustainable energy of the Party and the State".

Mr. Tran Phu Thai assigned Can Tho Thermal Power Company - Representative of the investor, to proactively manage and coordinate with the consortium of contractors to closely monitor the progress, safety/environment, costs, and ensure the quality of the project, and comply with the provisions of current laws on investment and construction. The entire project implementation process must be public and transparent, ensuring prevention of cost risks, maintaining the prestige of the Corporation, and ensuring the prescribed time.

The Block B - O Mon Gas - Power Project chain consists of three components: Block B Mine Development (upstream), Block B - O Mon Pipeline (midstream), and four gas power plants, O Mon I, II, III, IV (downstream), with a total expected installed capacity of 3,80 MW. Of which, OMTPP is invested by Power Generation Corporation 2, and Can Tho Thermal Power Company is responsible for project management. The plant consists of 2 units with a total capacity of 660MW. Unit 1 has been in operation since 2008, Unit 2 since 2015, contributing to increasing the power supply capacity of the national power system. Currently, the plant uses DO fuel and will switch to running on gas from the Block B gas supply with an expected demand of about 1.2 billion m³/year.
