The Vinh Yen 500kV substation project and connection line is a special-class energy work, group B, invested by the National Power Transmission Corporation, assigned to be managed and operated by the Northern Power Project Management Board (NPMB), designed by Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 3, and operated by Power Transmission Company 1.

The Vinh Yen 500kV Substation and its connection line were constructed in Trung My Commune, Binh Xuyen District, Vinh Phuc Province (formerly), which is now Binh Tuyen Commune, Phu Tho Province. The project includes the construction of a new 500/220/35kV substation with two 900MVA transformers. Each transformer is connected to a combination of three single-phase transformers, with a capacity of 300MVA. The project also features 500kV and 220kV feeder bays, as well as two 4.7 km long connection lines.

The Vinh Yen 500kV substation was completed and energized on 21 July 2025, meeting the set schedule.

The Vinh Yen 500kV substation and the connecton lines, when completed, will be connected to the Hiep Hoa - Son La, Hiep Hoa - Viet Tri 500kV  lines, which are the transfer point between two sources of thermal power and hydropower - from the Son La, Lai Chau hydropower plants and thermal power clusters in the Quang Ninh area. This substation will also be connected to the Lao Cai – Vinh Yen 500kV transmission line upon its completion, facilitating the timely release of power from small hydropower plants in the Northwest region and the import of electricity. This will significantly contribute to ensuring power supply for the Northern region in the coming years. Upon completion, the project will play a vital role in meeting the growing power demand of Phu Tho province, strengthening inter-regional connectivity within the power grid, and enhancing the safety and stability of the national power system.

Speaking at the ceremony, Comrade Nguyen Huu Tuan - Standing Deputy Secretary of the EVN Party Committee said: The ceremony of affixing the name board today is not only an event to encourage and recognize the results of the enthusiastic and creative work of the staff, but also an important event to affirm the organizational, management, construction capacity and the courage to overcome difficulties of EVN and EVNNPT in the period of strong transformation to embark on a new term with confidence and high expectations.

Speaking at the ceremony, Comrade Nguyen Tuan Tung – Party Secretary and Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVNNPT – stated that EVNNPT’s upcoming tasks include the completion of many key and urgent projects, as directed by the Prime Minister and EVN, with substantial construction and investment volumes. EVNNPT and its affiliated units will continue striving to fulfill all the planned tasks assigned by EVN.
