The total power production and import output of the whole system in March reached 28.6 billion kWh. Accumulated in the first quarter of 2026, total system output reached 76.86 billion kWh – a 6.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The proportion of mobilized power sources of the whole system in the first quarter of 2026 is as follows:

+ Hydropower: 16.09 billion kWh, accounting for 20.9%.

+ Coal-fired thermal power: 40.58 billion kWh, accounting for 52.8%.

+ Gas turbines: 5.4 billion kWh, accounting for 7%.

+ Renewable energy: 11.8 billion kWh, accounting for 15.4% (of which solar power reached 6.98 billion kWh, wind power reached 4.33 billion kWh).

+ Imported electricity: 2.92 billion kWh, accounting for 3.8%...

The transmission power output in the first three months of 2026 is estimated at 60.9 billion kWh.

In the first quarter of 2026, EVN also organized high-capacity operation of the Hoa Binh, Thac Ba, and Tuyen Quang hydropower plants to supplement water resources as required by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, while ensuring power supply for pumping stations and inland pumping to serve rice planting in the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring crop for the provinces in the Northern Midlands and Delta. The total discharge time for the two periods was 15 days (reduced by 1.5 days compared to the plan) with a total water discharge from the hydropower reservoirs of 3.348 billion m3, saving 18% compared to the initial plan.

In March, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and its member units actively implemented various activities in response to the Earth Hour 2026 campaign. 2026 marks the 18th time Vietnam has participated in the Earth Hour campaign. With the message “Green Innovation – Green Future,” the campaign continues to emphasize the role of innovation in energy use, aiming for green transformation and sustainable development. After one hour of symbolic lights-off, the country saved 463,000kWh of electricity, equivalent to approximately VND 1.02 billion.

Customer service: In the first quarter of 2026, the percentage of customers paying electricity bills without using cash across EVN reached 99.77%. The Power Corporations received over 9.698 million requests for electricity services; Of these, 7.459 million requests were received and processed via the Internet (National Public Service Portal, customer service website, customer service app, Zalo, etc.), accounting for 76.91%. The rate of receiving electricity service requests via electronic channels across EVN reached 99.83%.

Construction investment: In the first quarter of 2026, in an effort to implement the 2026 investment and construction plan, EVN leaders regularly inspected the construction sites of key works, while also directing and directly working with units and localities to urge the resolution of difficulties and obstacles, and promote the progress of project implementation. The Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) issued Resolution No. 31-NQ/DU dated 21 March 2026, providing leadership and direction for units to invest in key projects in 2026.

The situation of implementing key power source and grid projects in the first quarter of 2026: Quang Trach I Thermal Power Project achieved an overall progress of 98.4%, preparing for the synchronization of unit 1; the EPC contract for the Quang Trach II LNG Thermal Power Project has been signed; the State Inspection Council has approved the Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project for the completion of construction acceptance...

In the first quarter of 2026, EVN and its units commenced construction on 46 works and completed the energization of 39 power grid works from 110 to 500kV (01 500kV project, 07 220kV projects and 31 110kV projects); These include important projects such as: Upgrading the capacity of the Pho Noi 500kV substation, the Doc Soi - Dung Quat 220kV transmission line, and the 500kV connection after the Vinh Yen 500kV substation...

In addition to its production, business, and construction investment activities, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and its member units have implemented various social welfare initiatives, totaling over VND 18.5 billion.

Some key tasks of EVN in second quarter of 2026:

Regarding power production and supply:

- Member units will focus their efforts on implementing tasks as directed by the Government, the Prime Minister, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to ensure power supply during the peak period of 2026 and the period of 2027-2030; strengthen the implementation of electricity saving and the development of rooftop solar power according to Directive No. 10/CT-TTg dated 30 March 2026 of the Prime Minister.

- Power generation corporations and power generation units will ensure sufficient fuel for power production according to system needs, be ready to operate generating units to meet operating modes and provide backup power sources as required by The National Electricity System and Market Operation Company (NSMO); strictly implement technical management, inspection, and review of procedures and regulations in operation and maintenance to ensure the availability and reliability of generating units; while ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations.

Hydropower plants proactively monitor and assess hydrological conditions, enhance coordination and information sharing with local authorities and relevant regulatory agencies, and operate reservoirs flexibly and efficiently to ensure a harmonious balance among water demands for domestic use, agricultural production, and electricity generation, particularly during peak dry periods and extreme heat conditions.

- The National Power Transmission Corporation operates the power grid system safely and reliably; it strengthens inspection and thoroughly addresses equipment defects and handles potential violations of transmission line corridors to ensure stable operation of power lines and substations. Ensures the progress of capacitor bank installation projects and accelerates the deployment of battery storage systems (BESS), especially in the northern region.

- Power Corporations/Power Companies: Develop specific power supply plans for various scenarios, work with large power consumers to plan for load shifting/adjustment in extreme situations during peak dry season periods. Coordinate closely with NSMO in managing and forecasting power demand, assessing the impact of the development of distributed power sources (especially self-generating and self-consuming rooftop solar power sources), and the development of electric vehicles; promote electricity saving solutions and efficient energy use; invest in and install battery storage systems (BESS) on the distribution grid to ensure power supply capacity for 2026 and subsequent years, especially in the Northern region.

Regarding investment in power generation construction: Ensure the progress of key power generation projects: (i) Quang Trach I Thermal Power Project: synchronize unit 1 with the grid in April 2026, striving for commercial operation of unit 1 in May 2026; (ii) Quang Trach II LNG Project: striving for commencement/construction in the second quarter of 2026; (iii) Quang Trach III LNG Project: complete FS appraisal in April 2026, approve FS and implement procedures to strive for project commencement in 2026;

- Focus on construction of the Tri An Hydropower Expansion Project and the Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower Project according to the planned schedule for 2026...

Regarding investment in power grid construction: Accelerate the progress of important and urgent projects to ensure energization in the second quarter of 2026 such as: the Nho Quan - Phu Ly - Thuong Tin 500/220kV transmission line; The Nhon Trach 3 - Long Thanh power plant 220kV transmission line; the West Hanoi - Thanh Xuan 220kV transmission line; the Dai Mo 220kV substation (Hanoi); the Phu Quoc - South Phu Quoc 110kV transmission line and the Phu Quoc - North Phu Quoc 110kV transmission line are serving the APEC power supply...

To ease operational challenges of the power system during the dry season and prolonged hot weather, and to minimize the risk of electrical incidents caused by surging demand - especially in the North - Vietnam Electricity (EVN) calls for continued cooperation and active participation from the public and electricity users. This includes practicing thorough electricity conservation and avoiding the simultaneous use of multiple high-power appliances during peak hours, particularly in the evening. Efficient use of electricity will also help reduce the risk of power incidents and limit the increase in electricity bills.
