Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien concludes working session

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Duc Ninh, General Director of the National Power System and Market Operation Company (NSMO), reported that the total electricity production and import of the national power system in the first four months of the year is estimated at approximately 98.7 billion kWh. Although certain incidents have occurred within the system, affecting the ability to ensure power supply, power supply during the first four months of the year has still been maintained and ensured.

To ensure a safe and uninterrupted power supply during the April 30 – May 1 holiday, as well as a stable power supply throughout the dry season months of 2025, NSMO has developed multiple calculation scenarios. These scenarios include: An extreme scenario to assess the power system’s ability to ensure power supply under critical conditions; A favorable scenario to evaluate fuel demand in the event of lower power consumption; And a scenario involving adjusted dispatch of Son La Hydropower Plant to increase flood control capacity and enhance safety during the construction period of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion Project. In terms of the overall power supply outlook, the national and all three regions’ power systems are expected to ensure sufficient power supply during the dry season months and throughout 2025.

With the spirit of ensuring absolute safety and reliability in power supply for the national economy, especially during the dry season months and major national holidays, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien has instructed national energy groups and corporations, and relevant units to strictly implement the directives of the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the tasks and solutions to ensure sufficient power supply for production, business activities, and daily life under all circumstances.

Accordingly, the Minister requested that State-owned groups and corporations, and relevant affiliated units under the Ministry focus on strictly, decisively, and effectively implementing the assigned tasks and directives outlined in Directive No. 01/CT-TTg dated January 3, 2025, by the Prime Minister, and Directive No. 02/CT-BCT dated January 23, 2025, by the Minister of Industry and Trade on ensuring power supply during the peak period of 2025 and the 2026–2030 period; Official Telegram No. 1822/CD-BCT dated March 15, 2025, on ensuring the safe and stable operation of power plants in the coming period; As well as the Minister’s other instructions in the Decisions approving the National Power Supply and System Operation Plan, the Coal Supply Schedule, the Gas Supply Plan for Power Generation in 2025, and other related regulatory and directive documents.

These energy groups, corporations, and power plant investors must strengthen close coordination with NSMO in calculating, updating, and announcing power generation mobilization requirements, ensuring closely following actual conditions and allowing sufficient time for power plant investors to prepare adequate fuel sources for power generation. At the same time, units must proactively and strictly implement coal stockpiling measures to ensure readiness for power generation.
