The Party Committee of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has chosen this work to affix with a name board in celebration of the 4th EVN Party Congress, term 2025-2030.

The Vinh Yen 500kV substation and connection line project is a special-class energy work, group B, invested by the National Power Transmission Corporation, assigned to be managed and operated by the Northern Power Project Management Board (NPMB), designed by Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 3, and operated by Power Transmission Company 1.

The project includes the construction of a new 500/220/35kV substation with two 900MVA transformers. Each transformer is connected to a combination of three single-phase transformers, with a capacity of 300MVA. The project also features 500kV and 220kV feeder bays, as well as two 4.7 km long connection lines.

The Vinh Yen 500kV substation is connected to the Hiep Hoa–Son La and Hiep Hoa–Viet Tri 500kV transmission lines. This substation acts as a junction between two key power sources: hydropower from the Son La and Lai Chau plants, and thermal power generated by the Quang Ninh power clusters.

This substation will also be connected to the Lao Cai – Vinh Yen 500kV transmission line upon its completion, facilitating the timely release of power from small hydropower plants in the Northwest region and the import of electricity. This will significantly contribute to ensuring power supply for the Northern region in the coming years.

This project also meets the load growth demand of Phu Tho province's power system, strengthens inter-regional connectivity within the power grid, and enhances the safety and stability of the national power system.
