According to information from PPMB2, the first oil firing of the boiler of Unit 1 -  the Quang Trach Thermal Power Project was successfully completed at 11:00 a.m. on August 16, 2025. This is an important milestone in the project implementation, moving from construction to the start-up phase and moving towards synchronization and power generation of the units.

The project was assigned by EVN to PPMB2 as the investor representative, along with projects at the Quang Trach Power Center with a total area of about 48.6 hectares in Phu Trach commune, Quang Tri province (formerly Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province). The project includes 2 units with a total installed capacity of 1,403 MW. When put into operation, the plant will supply the national power system with an annual electricity output of about 9.1 billion kWh, contributing to ensuring national energy security, improving the safety and stability of the power system. The total investment of the project is more than VND 42,000 billion, using EVN's capital (30%) and domestic commercial loans (70%) sponsored by the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank). The package of design, supply of goods, and construction of the Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant Project is implemented by the General Contractor Joint Venture, including 03 contractors: Mitsubishi Corporation (Japanese Contractor), Hyundai E&C (Korean Contractor), and Construction Corporation No. 1 (Vietnamese Contractor). These are all large, reputable contractors with capacity and experience in many large thermal power projects. The project uses USC technology (Ultra-Supercritical) with the highest plant parameters in Vietnam today.

Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant is expected to be the driving force for annual economic growth in Quang Tri province and the North Central region, thereby contributing to creating favourable conditions for the locality to develop supporting industries, contributing to the State budget of about VND 1,200 billion per year, and creating stable and long-term jobs for local workers, especially highly skilled workers. Regarding environmental protection, the plant will be synchronously equipped with wastewater, exhaust gas, and dust filtration systems, so the amount of gas emissions after treatment will fully comply with current Vietnamese environmental standards and be equivalent to the standards applied by the World Bank. Environmental parameters of the plant during operation will be transmitted to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quang Tri province for online monitoring and publicly displayed at the plant gate 24/24h in accordance with State regulations on environmental management.
