The discharge door cluster was constructed from the beginning of January 2020. After more than 14 months of construction, the main work items have been completed at 100% of the volume.
According to EVN's Deputy General Director Nguyen Tai Anh, by March 11, 2021, all the contents of the contract have been basically completed by the contractor, meeting the requirements of the contract and the approved design. Although there are still some problems, it does not affect the bearing capacity, lifetime, function and conditions for safe exploitation of the work items.

Bac Ai pumped-storage hydropower project is on the list of power source projects approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 428/QD-TTg dated 18 March 2016 approving the adjusted Power Development Planning in the period of 2011 - 2020 with a vision to 2030 (adjusted Power Master Planning VII).

The project plays the role of the capacity reserve, failure prevention and system frequency regulation, and plays an important role in the national power system, especially in the present and future context with many renewable energy plants (solar power, wind power) with low stability put into operation. The main task of the project is to cover the load chart of the system, contributing to reducing the difference (flattening) the chart by mobilizing pump capacity at the off-peak hours and generating power at hours.
Bac Ai Accumulated Hydropower Project uses modern equipment and technology with pumped storage hydropower work use the most modern integrated technology of reversing pump-turbine and motor - generator in the world. The project uses the water source from the Song Cai reservoir belonging to the Tan My irrigation system as the lower reservoir. Water is pumped from the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir to generate power through 2 parallel tunnels with diameters ranging from 5.5m to 7.5m, with a total length of each tunnel of more than 2,700m.
