An Khe - Ka Nak hydropower plant ensures water supply for Ba River downstream basin in the dry season

Currently, the water flow to An Khe - Ka Nak Hydropower reservoirs is low, but An Khe - Ka Nak Hydropower Company still ensures water supply to the lower Ba River in the dry season to serve the people.

An Khe - Ka Nak hydropower plant continuously operates and discharges water (average 6.33m3/s) to ensure water supply for domestic use, agricultural production and drought resistance in the dry season of 2022 for the lower Ba River

Specifically, the water flow to An Khe - Ka Nak Hydropower reservoir is currently only 5.68 m3/s, but the company still continuously operates and discharges water, ensuring water supply downstream of the Ba River. The average discharge to the downstream area is 6.33 m3/s. Periodically on the 1st of every month, the company discharges 30 m3/s for 5 consecutive hours. The total discharge volume through An Khe spillway serving people in the first quarter of 2022 is 52.68 million m3, accounting for more than 18% of the useful capacity of the Ka Nak reservoir.

From the end of 2021, the company has actively both produced power and stored water in the reservoir to serve the downstream water supply plan for the dry season of 2022. By 31 December 2021, the water level of Ka Nak Reservoir reached 515m. In the first quarter of 2022, An Khe - Ka Nak Hydropower Company produced 206.93 million kWh, reaching 36% of the output plan as assigned by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, making an important contribution to the socio-economic development of the locality and the Central - Central Highlands region.

The Company ensures the continuous discharge of water to the downstream basin in accordance with the Inter-reservoir Operation Process on the Ba river basin promulgated by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 878/QD-TTG dated 18 July 2018, making an important contribution to irrigation, agricultural production, and drought prevention for downstream areas.

The company regularly makes reports to and closely coordinates with local authorities, relevant agencies and departments to propagate and mobilize people to raise awareness of the economical and efficient use of water resources, in order to well perform the power generation while ensuring the political tasks of water supply for domestic use, agricultural production and drought resistance in the dry season of 2022.

An Khe - Ka Nak Hydropower Plant belongs to the top step of the Ba river hydropower system, including 2 plants: An Khe Hydropower Plant with an installed capacity of 160MW, a reservoir with a useful capacity of 5.6 million m3, located in An Khe town, Gia Lai province and Ka Nak Hydropower Plant with an installed capacity of 13MW, a reservoir with a useful capacity of 285 million m3 located in KBang district, Gia Lai province.
