Speaking at the conference, Mr. Ngo Son Hai - Deputy General Director of EVN said: By the end of 2021, EVN has 35 hydropower plants (including hydropower plants directly under EVN and under power generation corporations) with a total installed capacity of 12,830MW, accounting for 16.4% of total installed capacity of Vietnam's power system.

The digital transformation plan for the operation and maintenance of hydropower plants (HPP) under EVN is implemented in accordance with Resolution No. 68/NQ-HĐTV dated 17 February 2021 of the EVN Member Board on the approval of the Digital Transformation Master Plan in Vietnam Electricity by 2022, up to 2025.
According to EVN's Technical and Production Department, currently, EVN's HPPs are equipped with distributed control systems of many different brands such as GE, ABB, Andritz, Metso, Schneider, Mitsubishi. The number of digitized and stored operating signals at the power plants is very large, but the data accessing and exploiting faces many difficulties such as the data is locally located in different systems with different protocol standards, data mining tools are limited and difficult to use, etc.
Regarding the maintenance’s current state, EVN has applied a Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM II) policy to its affiliated HPPs since 2020. Some maintenance management functions have been developed on PMIS software. However, up to now, there has not been a complete repair and maintenance management system.
The conference “Automation and digital transformation solutions in hydropower plant operation and maintenance” took place on 29 March 2022, at the EVN headquarters video point.
EVN has encountered some difficulties in maintenance such as determining the equipment’s life to give the appropriate equipment replacement cycle; establishing quantitative indicator sets for equipment to apply CBM - or predictive maintenance method, etc.
At this conference, the delegates discussed some topics such as global strategy in automation and digital transformation solutions field based on ISO 55000 standard; solutions and services to meet the customization and diversify the scale of maintenance and operation services; Andritz's technology solutions, especially the Metris DiOMera platform, are capable of supporting the entire operation and maintenance cycle, etc.
