Mr. Dinh Van Cuong - Deputy Director of PTC3
Reporter: How has the application of GIS technology brought about positive effects to your organization?
Mr. Dinh Van Cuong: The application of GIS technology in power grid operation and management has enabled our employees to quickly identify the path to fault locations on power lines, minimizing time for locating faults and finding the points to access fault areas and thus optimizing the operating cost.
The GIS technology also helps to measure distances to serve for survey, determining distances in maintenance works during the operation and management of power grids, thereby contributing to proactively formulating plans and mobilizing human resources from the beginning. In particular, the technology assists to detect and localize fault areas that helps quickly find failures caused by lightning.
The collected lightning information (intensity, coordinates, time, etc. of lightning) will be imported into the transmission grid map of PTC3 to determine the distance from lightning strikes to the fault locations on power lines, thereby localizing the prioritized areas for inspection to quickly identify the potential fault locations due to lightning. From there, the operator can analyze and detect faults in a prompt manner.
Along with that, the digitized data helps to completely replace the traditional Test slips, the test information is digitized, facilitating the inspection, control, data consolidation and storage.
Reporter: Based on such effective outcomes, do you have any recommendations to further improve the application of this technology?
Mr. Dinh Van Cuong: The software has been effective, so PCT3 has suggested that EVNNPT soon speed up the deployment of the GIS program and google map in the operation and management of power grids of the whole Corporation.
EVNNPT should consider to accelerate the completion of the project "Application of technical management on the basis of GIS technology on the transmission grid" which has more functions to serve the management and operation of power grids such as: Periodic inspection of power lines, Management of line maintenance, etc.
Reporter: Thank you very much!
