The Workshop was part of the "Global Action Plan towards Low Carbon Economy" series initiated by Japan to support ASEAN Member States.

Speaking at the Workshop, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong stated that energy played an important role in the development of every nation.

Energy consumption tends to increase, especially in developing countries, which has affected the global climate change and deteriorated energy resources.

In response to these challenges, the Government of Viet Nam has issued many policies to strengthen and promote the use of of renewable energy, clean energy, with the aim of both ensuring electricity supply to meet the country's development needs and mitigating adverse environmental impacts.

According to Deputy Minister Hoang Quoc Vuong, with an attractive FIT scheme, at present many investors have registered to invest in wind and solar power projects in Viet Nam.

However, Deputy Minister Hoang Quoc Vuong also pointed out certain constraints of renewable energy development such as the intermittency characteristic of this energy source or the limited renewable energy absorption of the power grid. The concentration of many RE projects in a few locations will affect the operability of the power system.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has been actively working with relevant agencies to work out effective implementation solutions.

Mr. Daisuke Okabe, Deputy Ambassador of Japan in Viet Nam said that two countries Viet Nam and Japan have had many cooperation activities in the field of energy. Especially, in November 2017, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Viet Nam and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan signed a memorandum of understanding on clean energy.

Japan is always willing to support Viet Nam’s clean energy development. Mr. Okabe hopes that cooperation activities between the two countries will create many new relationships in the low carbon industry, especially in the private sector.

At the Viet Nam - Japan Public - Private Partnership Workshop on clean energy technology, experts and speakers also attentively exchanged and discussed smart technologies in the renewable energy industry, in energy conservation and energy efficiency, etc.
