On June 9 in Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan – President and CEO of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) – hosted a working session with a high-level delegation from Huawei Group (China), led by Mr. Zhou Haojie, Chief Operating Officer of the Electric Power Digital Division under Huawei’s Enterprise Business Group. The two parties discussed solutions to advance digital transformation in grid operation and the development of a modern power system.

Also present at the meeting from EVN were Executive Vice President Mr. Ngo Son Hai and leaders from several functional departments.

Representing Huawei were Mr. Tao Guangyao – Vice President for Asia Pacific, Mr. Zhang Feng – General Director of Huawei Vietnam, along with senior experts in power digitalization, energy storage, and smart ICT infrastructure solutions.

At the meeting, Mr. Zhou Haojie shared Huawei’s global experience in partnering with major electric utilities across more than 70 countries. In Vietnam, Huawei has collaborated with over 300 partners in implementing renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of approximately 9GW, including both utility-scale and rooftop solar systems. The technologies introduced by Huawei emphasized flexible integration with existing power grids, distributed energy management, and enhanced connectivity among solar systems, EV charging stations, and energy storage systems.

Huawei’s smart grid architecture enables the simultaneous management of new power generation models, optimizing operational performance and ensuring system stability under weak-grid conditions or with high shares of renewable energy. These models have been deployed in diverse markets such as China, Germany, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and Brazil.

Speaking at the event, EVN President and CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan reaffirmed that developing a modern, flexible, and digitalized electricity infrastructure is a strategic priority for EVN. According to the adjusted national power development plan for 2021–2030 with a vision to 2050, Vietnam’s total power system capacity is expected to reach 183–236GW by 2030, with nearly 40% from renewable sources such as hydro, solar, wind, and biomass. The rapid increase in renewable energy share poses significant challenges for system dispatch, load balancing, and grid stability, especially as traditional grid infrastructure remains underinvested.

To meet the increasingly complex demands of grid operations, EVN’s leadership underscored the importance of early deployment of advanced technologies in monitoring, control, and integration of distributed energy resources. Smart grids, energy storage systems, and digitalized operational platforms are deemed essential to maintaining system stability, reliability, and overall efficiency.

Impressed by Huawei’s technological capabilities, strategic vision, and comprehensive solution ecosystem, EVN expressed hope that the company will actively contribute to the digital transformation of Vietnam’s power sector.
