Continue to strengthen cooperation between EVN and AES (USA)

On February 16, EVN’s President and CEO Tran Dinh Nhan worked with Mr. Bernerd Da Santos - Permanent Vice President and CEO of AES Group (USA) on cooperation in the energy field between the two groups.

In Vietnam, AES and investors built Mong Duong 2 BOT thermal power plant with a capacity of 2x560MW in Quang Ninh province. Construction of the project commenced in 2011, and commercial power was generated in 2015. Then, in 2019, AES and the Ministry of Industry and Trade signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the development of the Son My 2 BOT power plant project (3x750MW) using LNG fuel from the Son My LNG Terminal project. Currently, this project is being implemented.

For units of EVN, AES and Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) have coordinated to study the energy storage system (BESS) project on Phu Quy island, completing the project's feasibility study report.

In the coming time, AES will continue to invest in a 4GW offshore wind power project in Binh Thuan; focus on developing BESS production technology, and so on.  Mr. Bernerd Da Santos said that Vietnam can lead the region in the energy transition, and affirmed that AES would continue to invest in the long term with the desire to become an active contributing partner for Vietnam to achieve its net zero emissions target by 2050.

EVN will continue to work closely with AES in technical matters, ensuring the development of sustainable energy projects in Vietnam.
