The total electricity production and import of the whole power system in August 2018 reached 19.52 billion kWh (629.8 million kWh per day on average), the highest daily output was 658.5 million kWh and the highest capacity of the system was 31,321MW. In aggregation, the total electricity output of the whole system in the first eight months of 2018 reached 145.15 billion kWh, an increase of 11.2% over the same period of 2017. The total commercial electricity of EVN in August 2018 was estimated at 17.05 billion kWh; the total commercial electricity in the first eight months of 2018 was estimated at 126.05 billion kWh, growing by 10.62% over the same period in 2017, of which the domestic commercial electricity rose by 10.69%.
EVN and its member organizations maintained their close collaboration with the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in operating large hydropower reservoirs in the North, to strictly perform the open or close of floodgates of Son La, Lai Chau, Hoa Binh and Tuyen Quang hydropower plants in order to ensure safety of these plants and their downstream areas under the direction of the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control. The emergency response to the typhoon No. 4 and floods were performed in a very active and proactive manner, with the aim of remedying power failures in the North and North Central provinces as soon as possible.
The transmission flow in August 2018 was kept in the direction from the North to the Central to the South with the transmitted electricity volume estimated at 16.24 billion kWh. The highest transmission capacity of the North - Central 500kV transmission lines was 2,020MW and of Central - South was 3,900MW; the electricity volume transmitted to the South was about 77.4 million kWh/day (equivalent to 29.6% of the electricity demand of the South). Water inflows in some hydropower reservoirs were better than the average level of many years (especially the northern ones and the Se San cascade). Therefore, in August 2018, hydropower plants were kept to be highly dispatched, coal fired and gas turbine sources were reasonably dispatched according to practical needs.
Regarding construction investment activities, in August 2018, EVN and its member organizations commenced construction of 10 grid projects; energized and put into operation 9 projects at 110kV to 500kV. Over the first 08 months of the year, in total EVN commenced construction of 74 projects; energized and put into operation 106 projects at 110kV – 500kV (500kV – 220kV: 22 projects, 110kV: 84 projects).
Regarding the equitization of EVNGENCO 1 and EVNGENCO 2, EVN submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Trade plans and time schedules of equitization, and in turn the Ministry of Industry and Trade requested permission from the Prime Minister to implement the equitization from the date of January 01, 2019.
Some tasks of EVN in September 2018
In September 2018, the average power consumption of the whole system is estimated at 616.9 million kWh/day, with the peak load of roughly 32,100MW.
The power system operation in September 2018 aims at: strictly following the process of inter-reservoir hydropower regulation; quickly overcoming the consequences caused by heavy rains and floods, while preparing emergency response plans for disaster prevention and mitigation, search and rescue, safety assurance for dams, reservoirs, hydropower plants and downstream areas; optimally exploiting hydropower and thermal power at the same time, securing the water supply for downstream localities; safely and reliably operating the transmission system, especially the North - South 500kV system under high transmission conditions in the South; continuing communication programs on energy conservation and saving as well as power safety measures for the people, etc.
With regards to the investment in and construction of power generation projects: In September 2018, completing construction works to enable 50,000 ton ships to dock and issuing PAC for unit 1 of Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant project, in parallel accelerating the consumption of ash and slag at the Vinh Tan Power Complex; ensuring the progress of electrical equipment testing of Duyen Hai 3 Thermal Power Plant project, etc. Regarding network projects, in September 2018, EVN’s subsidiaries will continue to take actions to ensure the implementation schedule of some 500kV, 220kV and 110kV network projects, including projects to evacuate capacity from power plants in Vinh Tan Power Complex; completing Nghia Lo - Ba Khe 110kV power line; completing Can Duoc 220kV substation and finalizing procedures for starting construction of Kien Binh - Phu Quoc 220kV transmission line; speeding up the implementation schedule of projects for rehabilitating Yen Phu 110kV substation and Tay Ho - Yen Phu, Thanh Cong - Thuong Dinh 110kV underground cables, etc.
Concerning the equitization of generation corporations and divestment activities: Proceeding with equitization steps of Power Generation Corporation No. 1 and Power Generation Corporation No. 2 after getting the guidance of the Prime Minister and relevant ministries; Continuing to carry out EVN's divestment procedures at joint-stock companies: Dong Anh Electrical Equipment Corporation, EVN Finance; Power Engineering Consulting Companies No. 3 and 4, and Thuan Binh Wind Power.
