Due to intense sun heat, power consumption in the North in the first week of August increases by 25% compared to that of the same period in 2020

As reported, from the middle of last week, there began to be a severe heatwave on a large scale in the North and Central regions of Vietnam, the temperature of the day was commonly at 35-38 degrees, in some places it was over 38 degrees and the heatwave is forecast to last until 9 August 2021.

According to data from the National Load Dispatch Center, the average power consumption of the whole North in the past week (from July 31 to August 6) was at 379 million kWh/day, 25 million kWh/day % over that of the same period in 2020. The day with the largest power consumption in the North in the past week was 426.5 million kWh (6 August 2021), about 11% higher than the peak of the previous week.

On the other hand, in terms of capacity, in the past recent week, the largest power consumption capacity of the whole North was 18,500MW (6 August 2021) - about 1500MW higher than the peak capacity of the previous week. This additional 1500MW is equivalent to the total capacity of both Lai Chau (1200MW) and Tuyen Quang (342MW) hydropower plants.
