EVN Deputy General Director Nguyen Tai Anh and JERA Yukio Kani Deputy General Director signed the Memorandum of Understanding
Speaking at the ceremony, EVN Deputy General Director Nguyen Tai Anh said that Vietnam's electricity system has now reached the scale of more than 50,000MW of installed capacity and will continue to grow in the coming time to meet the growth rate of power at more than 10%/year of the country.
According to the revised 7 Power Plan, to develop the power source to reach 130,000MW by 2030, Vietnam needs to supplement new power sources and ensure fuel supply for the operation of power plants, considering diversification of primary fuel resources to ensure national energy security. The development of gas-fired power projects using LNG is an indispensable option for Vietnam and EVN’s electricity system.
Japan is one of the countries with solid foundation and leading in the field of gas – power industry. It is also the largest LNG importer in the world with about 68% of imported LNG being used for power generation. In particular, JERA is the largest buyer of LNG and is a unit that manages and operates intake ports and power plants using LNG with more than 50 years of experience.
EVN Deputy General Director Nguyen Tai Anh speaks at the ceremony
The experience of JERA in the business field of LNG value chain, development of LNG gas-fired power plant will certainly be valuable information for EVN, and at the same time, the potential to open up opportunities of energy cooperation in the future between the two sides
On the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by and between EVN and JERA, the two sides will be ready to cooperate to share and exchange information for supporting EVN in accessing and bringing LNG fuel source for electric power production and other sectors in the LNG value chain.
