EVN and SEMBCORP signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation in power sector

On 27 November 2021, Vietnam Electricity and SEMBCORP (Singapore) held a signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the power sector. The signing ceremony was performed online.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Mai Phuoc Dung, Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore, affirmed that EVN is the leading Vietnamese energy group while SEMBCORP has 25 years of experience in Vietnam with outstanding projects and is one of the very strong groups in energy development, especially green energy.

The cooperation between EVN and SEMBCORP is a comprehensive cooperation not only between the two groups, but also between Vietnam and Singapore. With the rich experience and strengths of both groups, the ambassador expressed his belief that the cooperation will be a success.

Mr. Jaya Ratnam, Singapore’s Ambassador to Vietnam, said that the MOU signing between the two groups demonstrates a strong commitment of Vietnam to realize the dual goals of economic development and environmental protection, addressing the threat posed by climate change.

Mr. Duong Quang Thanh, Chairman of EVN's Board of Directors, said that over the past time, EVN and Sembcorp have discussed, negotiated and established a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in exchanging experiences in electricity development and experts between the parties. These strengths of the groups shall meet the development needs of the two parties in the next stage of development.

EVN and SEMBCORP will work together to seek ways to adapt and develop in the context of very rapid and strong changes in the energy industry, after the 26th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26).

In order to put the cooperation subjects into reality in an early and effective manner, Mr. Duong Quang Thanh suggested that the two parties promptly organize a kick-off meeting and make a detailed plan to implement cooperation activities in 2022 and the following years.
