Securing sufficient electricity supply for the country
By the end of 2020, the total installed capacity of the power system reached 69,300 MW, an increase of nearly 14,000 MW compared to 2019. The scale of the power system of Vietnam ranks 2nd in Southeast Asia and 23rd in the world, EVN’s Vice President Nguyen Tai Anh reported at the Conference.
Power production and import of the whole system in 2020 was 247.08 billion kWh, the power sales reached 216.95 billion kWh, increasing by 2.9% and 3.42% respectively compared to 2019.
Also during the past year, the electricity market was operated in a continuous and stable manner in accordance with regulations. Since 1 September 2020, the dispatch cycle – transaction cycle of the electricity market has been converted down to 30 minutes, contributing to accurately and promptly handling fluctuations in system operation.
In the context of the outbreak of COVID-19, EVN made efforts to maintain production and business activities, at the same time proactively reported to the Prime Minister, ministries and implemented discounts of electricity prices and electricity bills in two times with the total discounted amount of about 12,300 billion VND (excluding VAT).
Customer service has been improved, providing 12/12 electricity services on the National Public Service Portal, accounting for over 77% of all transactions implemented on the Portal.
In the investment in electricity supply for rural and mountainous areas, especially in areas not having access to electricity, EVN's member organizations had proactively arranged finance with a total value of more than VND 1,000 billion to supply electricity to nearly 14,000 unelectrified households in the provinces of Son La, Lao Cai, Quang Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Kon Tum, Bac Lieu, etc. Regarding power supply to islands, in 2020, Power Corporations have completed power supply projects from the grid by submarine cables for Nhon Chau island commune (Binh Dinh province) and Tran island (Quang Ninh province); implementing the electrification project for Bach Long Vy island district (Hai Phong City) and investing in upgrading the power supply system in Truong Sa island district and DK1 rigs. By the end of 2020, the number of communes having access to electricity in the country reached 100% and the number of households having access to electricity reached 99.54%, of which the number of rural households electrified reached 99.3%.
