EVN to prepare 3 Hydropower Plant Expansion Projects

Vietnam Electricity is actively implementing the investment preparation for 3 additional new power generation projects under the revised Master Plan VII, including the Hoa Binh, Ialy and Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion projects.

To date, EVN has submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for approval of the pre-feasibility study of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion Project and completed the pre-feasibility study of the Ialy Hydropower Plant Expansion Project.  

First exploring bore of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion Project is deployed

VN has set the target from now to the end of the year 2016 to complete the survey and preparation of the Feasibility Study of the Hoa Binh and Ialy Hydropower Plant Expansion Projects and conduct the selection of the consultant for prefeasibility study preparation of the Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion project.  

Under Decision of 428/QD-TTg dated March 18, 2016 by the Prime Minister on approving the revised National Power Development Program for 2011-2020 period with vision to 2030 (revised Master Plan VII), the Ialy Hydropower Plant Expansion Project has the capacity of 360 MW and is expected to be energized in 2020.

The Hoa Binh hydropower plant expansion project has the capacity of 480 MW. Unit No.1 is expected to be energized in 2021 and Unit No.2 to be energized in 2022.   

The Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion Project has the capacity of 200 MW and is expected to be energized in 2025.   

The hydropower plant expansion projects are to cover the peak load of the power system and to  utilize the excess water in the flood season to generate power.
