EVN and JAKS Hai Duong Power Company Limited working on the operation of Hai Duong BOT Power Plant in 2024
Hai Duong BOT Power Plant has a total installed capacity of 1,200MW, including two power units, with an annual electricity generation output of about 7.5 billion kWh. Units 1 and 2 were put into commercial operation at the end of 2020 and early 2021, respectively.
At Decision No. 3110/QD-BTC dated November 30, 2023, of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the generation output in 2024 of Hai Duong BOT Power Plant is expected high: 7,793 million kWh, of which 4,416 million kWh will be mobilized in the dry season. This is the highest output since the power plant came into operation. Therefore, EVN requested Hai Duong BOT Power Plant to urgently fix incidents of the self-use transformer of unit S2 to ensure its availability at the highest, especially in the dry season of 2024.
Also at the meeting, EVN highly appreciated the collaboration of Hai Duong BOT Power Plant over the past time. The number of incidents at the power plant has gradually lessened over the years; Particularly, the power plant operated relatively safely and stably in the dry season of 2023, which contributed to ensuring electricity supply under the context of supply difficulties. According to Mr. Ngo Son Hai – Vice President of EVN, despite incidents, Hai Duong BOT Power Plant generated a high electricity output in the past year. In particular, the power plant adjusted to reduce coal inventory to support coal supply to other power plants, contributing to electricity supply to the North.

In 2024, the power system will keep facing many difficulties and challenges. Almost no new power generation sources will be put into operation in the Northern region, except for a few small hydropower plants, whereas demand is forecasted to increase by about 6%.
According to EVN’s Vice President Ngo Son Hai, the Prime Minister has given many instructions and requests that electricity shortage will be intolerable in any situation. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has also issued many documents directing EVN and other groups, corporations, and power generation companies to have solutions to ensure sufficient electricity supply in 2024. In particular, the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Industry and Trade required that thermal power plants would have to secure their availability at the highest and sufficient fuel to be dispatched according to the system's dispatching requirements. Therefore, EVN hopes that Hai Duong BOT Power Plant will coordinate closely with the Group and its member units to operate safely and reliably, ensuring maximum availability of generating units.
