Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower Project belongs to the list of power source projects approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 428/QD-TTg dated 18 March 2016 on approving adjustments to the National Power Development Master Plan for the period of 2011 - 2020 with a view to 2030 (Adjusted Master Plan No. 7).
The project brings an important meaning to the national power system, especially in the context of many renewable energy plants (solar power, wind power) being put into operation in the power system. The main task of the project is to generate peaking power of the system's load chart, contributing to reducing the difference (flattening the load chart) by mobilizing pumped capacity during minimum consumer load hours and generating power during peak hours.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed specifically in main contents such as an updated report on project implementation status, implementation plan for the next phase, draft bidding plan of the project, etc.
The sponsors said that through the meeting, they have understood more clearly of issues related to technical requirements, finance, bidding, etc., of the project. Sponsors also affirmed that they shall focus resources to soon complete the appraisal work, to meet the project's commencement schedule in the first quarter of 2024.
